Do you have trouble putting your mobility aid in the car? 🚘 This functional exercise can make a HUGE difference ⤵️ One of the frustrations many people with MS face is lifting their rollator (or any mobility aid) into the car. Make sure you're standing with your feet wide and feel balanced. Muscle weakness can make this task difficult and downright exhausting. But there are ways to make it easier AND safer! 💥 Try this exercise 5 times a week 💥 1️⃣ At home, practice lifting your rollator (or your mobility aid of choice) up and down as an exercise. 2️⃣ This will strengthen your core and arms and improve your balance. 3️⃣ With consistent practice, you’ll find putting your mobility aid into your car easier, safer, and less fatiguing. Remember, every small step you take towards building strength and confidence makes a significant impact on your daily life. Keep practicing, stay strong, and know that you’re not alone in this journey. 💙 Having a lightweight rollator can also make a big difference. The byACRE Rollator is one of my faves if you’re looking for something light and easy to manage. 🌟 Want to try it out? Comment ROLL below and I’ll send you a link to get your own! Have you tried this exercise or found other helpful tips? Let me know in the comments! 💬

Rolling on 4 is doable but lifting one leg and getting up is impossible unless there’s another table or chair or something then MAYBE is possible.

This is a very useful video for explaining and demonstrating functional exercising. I’d watched another of your vids where you’d advised not to only undertake regular forms of exercise, which is what I’ve been doing since diagnosis in 2015. I will now endeavour to include some functional exercises each week. Friends and family have kindly praised me for all my efforts to stay well and active despite my MS + my increasing age (turned 60 at the tail end of last year) and my husband and son say they’re proud of me and that I should be proud of myself. Well, Gretchen I’d like to say: firstly congrats on the birth of your daughter and secondly that I think you should be proud of yourself for being so proactive in the face of what is, to be accurate, very major surgery. I strongly suspect your husband is of you and that your daughter will be too, in years to come when she knows how you’ve assisted so many living with a horrendous disease. You will certainly find yourself relishing many occasions of being so very proud of her.😊

Is standing up from the floor difficult? Is so, today’s post is for you! 🙋 Standing up from the floor is a very important skill. Not just for everyday life like playing on the floor with kids/grandkids, cleaning, etc. But what if you fall and need to get up? It's a safety risk, for sure. With the right exercises, you can build the strength you need to make standing up easier. One of my favorite exercises for this is practicing rolling from your butt onto your hands and knees! Here’s why this exercise is so effective🌟: 🧡 It strengthens your core, hips, legs, and shoulders. 🧡It breaks down the movement of standing up into manageable parts (aka: functional exercise). 🧡 The stronger you are with this exercise, the easier standing up will be. Remember, if this exercise is painful or doesn’t feel right for you, don’t push it! Work with an in-person physical therapist (who understands MS) to find the best exercises tailored to your needs. If you want to make it a little easier, try these modifications: 💡 Practice on your bed: If getting up from the floor is difficult, do this exercise on your bed instead. 💡 Focus on upper body movement: Try just reaching over to one side of your body without coming onto your hands and knees. 💡Use a pillow: If you experience knee pain, place a pillow under your knees for added comfort. Want more MS exercises to help with standing up? In my book, I have a full demo of my two favorite techniques with photos of six exercises for each technique. 📚Comment BOOK below and I'll send you the link to grab your copy! 📚

This video was great! Thank you so much. With this heat my walking has become horrendous. So I know you said to break down the movement of walking into exercises. Now, I understand you do one "step" at a time and once you strengthen that one "step" you move on to the second. My mistake was I was trying to do everything at once. But baby steps..... thank you so much!❤

Well before my MS days, a friend saw me fastening my bra the usual way, and asked why I was doing it in such a complicated way. She’d learnt to fasten it in the front, scoot it around to the back and then put her arms through the straps. I’ve been doing it that way ever since. It’s so simple and doesn’t need a hard-to-find front closing bra. We’re conditioned to think we need to do the complicated back fastening, but when you think outside the box, it’s not necessary. And for anyone thinking that it will stretch the band and shorten its useful life. I haven’t had any issues with that in over 20 years.
